HOW TO PREPARE YOUR BOAT FOR TRANSPORT

There are a few preparations you must do to transport your boat safely. It includes:
- Secure all loose items to avoid damages.
- Clean the exterior and check for any damages.
- Choose a loading spot with 14’ clearance.
- Secure all open gear above and below the deck.
- Fasten and tape cabin windows.
- Drain water and fuel tanks.
- Remove drain plugs if any.
- Measure the boat to make sure it is of legal loading height.
Once you have done all of it, hire a licensed marine surveyor to inspect the boat thoroughly.
CHOOSING A BOAT TRAILER
After preparing your boat for transportation, it is time to choose a boat trailer. You can transport the boat on your trailer or ask the transporter to provide it to you. Talk with your chosen transporter about the trailer options.
Your Trailer: If you choose to transport the boat on your trailer, you must take the responsibility for any damages or mishaps. However, inspect your trailer and check securing devices, tires, and lights to avoid damage.
Using your trailer is not a better way to transport the boat. The best option is to use a carrier’s trailer as it relieves you of all the stress.
Carrier’s Trailer: If you choose a carrier’s trailer to transport your boat, you must provide them with the details of your boat, like the dimensions and any damages. On the other hand, the transporter will inform you how they will deliver your boat with the estimated cost.

BOAT TRANSPORTATION INSURANCE
The transit of your boat from its origin to destination is exposed to various risks. Importing or exporting your boat can expose (Consignee) or (Consignor) to enormous financial losses in case shipments gets damaged in transit or lost. Therefore, it is critical to protect your boat from mishaps, enabling you to carry out the transport smoothly. For this, you need boat transport insurance. The insurance covers the loss or damage arising from fire, theft, washing overboard, damage during loading and unloading, seawater entering the boat, overturning or derailment during land transport, stranding, grounding, or sinking and much more. Thus, before you embark on the journey to ship your boat, ensure you have the proper insurance.
